PRINCE OF BELAIR
Existing row house from the 1960’s in Luxembourg City.
First step was to analyse the existing construction; the house had apparently been designed in plan view only. There was a lot of surface, yet quite little space.
Answering to the client’s desire of living in close contact to the garden, a rather drastic re-shuffling of program attribution had to be undertaken.
Half of the ground-level are freed to change from garage to living-room, while at the same time the floors covering the entrance and this new living area will be broken down, in order to create 2 double height rooms and enable various visual and physical connections through the house.
In relation to the program re-shuffling and the major cuts inside the house’s structure, the façade will have to undergo a drastic re-design. Exploding the existing grid, each window will thus respond to a program- as well as site-specific criterion, ranging from framing a single tree to creating an overview.
