Peterbos
As part of the “Parc du Peterbos” urban renewal project in Brussels, the 2001–FELT team won the competition launched by the Brussels Bouwmeester for the construction of a hybrid urban facility combining public space, sports infrastructure, offices, and social and hospitality amenities.
Built in the 1960s following a functionalist approach, Parc du Peterbos in Anderlecht consists of slabs and towers of affordable housing that are currently undergoing transformation and renovation. At the center of the development, between slabs and towers 9 (currently renovated by 51N4E and Lacaton & Vassal), 7, and 12, a three-level parking structure previously served the entire neighborhood.
This parking structure will now be replaced by a hybrid urban facility that connects the different levels of the residential buildings with the surrounding public spaces.
Submerged below ground, a sports hub including a multi-sports hall, dojo, and dance studio with their changing facilities will become the new heart of the neighborhood.
Above, directly connected to the public space extending southward, offices for social services will welcome residents.
Adjacent to this, a café-restaurant will activate the area. Developed over three levels, it links the various levels of the urban block.
At the top level, the roof of the facility will become a multifunctional public square, serving both as a terrace for the café and as a venue for social events.
