LYON GPDA
The Porte des Alpes project is a major urban transformation led by the Métropole de Lyon to rethink this strategic eastern gateway of the Lyon metropolitan area through 2030–2050. Originally developed as a fragmented, car-oriented zone of shopping centers, university facilities, offices, and infrastructure, the area is now being reimagined as a more connected, ecological, and mixed-use district. The plan seeks to accommodate growth while preserving natural and agricultural land, strengthen nature and climate resilience, and improve quality of life through innovative urban and architectural typologies. A key demonstration project in the Parc-Techno aims to transform an underused office park into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood, using vacancy as an opportunity to enhance landscape continuity, public space, and economic vitality. Overall, the initiative establishes a bold new development model aligned with long-term environmental, social, and economic challenges.
